Canterbury

View of Canterbury Cathedral, a recommended destination on a tailor-made group tour of the UK

Canterbury cathedral is one of the most extraordinary buildings in England. In addition to being stunningly beautiful, it is full of history; a place of pilgrimage and the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the spiritual head of the Church of England.

The cathedral was the scene of the murder of Thomas Beckett in 1170 and the destination of Geoffrey Chaucer’s pilgrims in ‘The Canterbury Tales’.

You will see stained glass that dates from the 13th century and the burial place of King Henry IV and the Black Prince.

The city of Canterbury surrounds the cathedral with winding streets, ancient buildings and even some roman remains.
